23. Aug. 2023

Are you dreaming of a trekking tour in the Nepalese Himalayas? But you still don't know how to start planning your trip? And above all not who you can confide in this great adventure - given the large number of providers? Here you will find 7 good reasons to try it with us, the Trail Angels. You will not regret it :-)!

1. The experience: Nepal is our second home
When Trail Angel CEO and geographer Günter Mussnig traveled to Nepal for the first time in 1992, he was immediately enchanted by the magic of the country in the Himalayas. Since then he has set off on numerous expeditions and trekking tours in all regions of Nepal and is one of the proven travel experts in the Himalayas.
All trails and travel programs offered by the Trail Angels have been developed, checked and approved by Günter. In addition, Günter is project manager for the unique project “Fair Trails Himalayas” (see point 6) and has now infected the entire Trail Angels team with the Nepal virus. Several Trail Angels already have Nepal experience and are therefore competent contacts for you in our Trail Information and Booking Center.

2. Our local experts: hand-picked and certified agencies
There are now thousands of trekking agencies in Nepal, of which around 1,500 are state-approved. Even if you book through a travel agency (which we strongly recommend, see point 7), you have little insight into which trekking agency you are entrusting yourself to in Nepal. But the quality of the trekking agency often decides whether the Nepal trekking will be an unforgettable experience or a flop. The trekking guide (“Sirdar”) is one of the most important cornerstones for the travel experience: knowledge of English, knowledge of the area, technical skills, etc. are important quality factors. To get to the point: good guides only work for good agencies.

Therefore, the Trail Angels only cooperate with handpicked and – now brand new – Fair Trails® certified agencies. We have had a trusting partnership with them for many years and we are constantly working with them on new products and the further development of sustainable tourism in the Himalayas (see point 6: Fair Trails® Himalayas)

3. Private trekking: No peer pressure, please!
A breathtaking Nepal trekking should actually be the fulfillment of your ultimate travel dream. However, this dream can burst if you are traveling with the wrong travel companions as part of an organized group tour. Because group tours have it in them that you go on trips with people you don’t know before. And after a few days you may or may not suffer.

A risk that we believe you should avoid. Our answer to this risk is “private trekking”: whether alone, in pairs or in the group you have put together! In any case, you only travel with who you want. Of course, the team of our trekking agency (Sherpa guide, porter) is at your side. We are sure: “Private Trekking” is the best way to fulfill your travel dreams in the Himalayas.

With us you decide with whom you hike in the Himalayas – and not the travel agency! This is our relaxed principle for “private trekking”: A typical small group with the trekkers Günter and Klaus, guide Mingma Sherpa and two porters at the Renjo Pass (5,420m) in the Everest area.

4. More than trekking: surprising offers
Nepal is a true trekking paradise. And anyone who visits Nepal and is reasonably fit should embark on the unique experience of going on a multi-day trek in the Himalayas.

Times are also changing in Nepal: The old warhorses, who spend three or four weeks in expedition style, which of course involves some hardship, are becoming fewer, while more and more guests are limiting their Nepal trekking to max. Limit 10 days combine with other activities.

And Nepal has a lot to offer! The Chitwan or the even less well-known Bardia National Park on the border with India. The jungle of the Ganges lowlands is still spreading here and forms a unique kingdom of animals: Tigers, Ganges crocodiles, Indian rhinos, freshwater dolphins, to name just the most spectacular wild animal species, have their habitat here and open up to our guests with careful safari programs – whether on Elephant’s back or in a canoe.

The trekking capital of Pokhara, picturesquely situated on the banks of Phewa Lake, is another attractive additional program: soak up the international globetrotter atmosphere in the pleasant climate, enjoy the magical landscape and choose from a variety of adventure programs: from rafting on the wildly foaming Seti River to aerial adventures against the backdrop of the Himalayas (tandem paragliding, ultralight flights) to spiritual sites such as the World Peace Stupa or the Mahendra Cave.

These are just two (but admittedly particularly attractive) examples and we would be happy to advise you on other options to make your Nepal vacation as varied as possible.

Nepal is a true trekking paradise and has much more to offer. Our shopping basket of adventure offers is full to the brim and therefore your possibilities for planning a trip in the country in the Himalayas are almost limitless: – such as an elephant safari in the jungle of the Chitwan National Park

5. Magic moments – “tailor-made” is more than just a buzzword for us
For our vision of being able to offer guests the most individual, tailor-made travel experience possible, we have developed Bookyourtrail®, a unique online travel planner. With this powerful tool, paired with our Nepal expertise, we are able to create a 100% tailor-made holiday package for you. Because it’s supposed to be the trip of your life and you can’t buy it off the peg.

Let us advise you on your travel planning, because we know about the power of the special moment: Where and when is the sunset on Mt. Everest most impressive? When and in which monasteries can the colorful Mani Rimdu Festival be experienced during the Everest Trek? Where and when should I hike to see the beguiling rhododendron blooms? Which trekking destinations are suitable for the monsoon season?

The individual planning options with the Bookyourtrail® travel planner offer another advantage: you can adapt the trip exactly to your personal acclimatization abilities. Even if we make sure that we have enough time for acclimatization on our trips from the outset, you can plan additional rest days if you wish, in order to be optimally acclimatized. Because slower is often more enjoyable.

Magical moments in the Himalayas: Watching the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest, at sunset is definitely one of them! Gokyo Peak is a particularly ideal place for this.

6. Sustainable Tourism: Fair Trails® Himalayas When we started our commitment to Nepal, we immediately knew: we don’t want to be just another travel agency for Nepal! Motivated by our experiences of successfully developing sustainable tourism in Europe, we founded the project “Fair Trails® Himalayas” adapted to the countries of the Himalayas. We have also found strong partners for this: The Austrian Development Agency (www.entwicklung.at ), the official agency for development cooperation of the Republic of Austria and ENNOVENT, a company dedicated to sustainable business models in developing countries. It would go beyond the scope of this article to report on all Fair Trails® activities. In short: We develop new, breathtaking trails in underdeveloped regions; we qualify the regional partners for this; we certify the implementing trekking agencies (see point 2) and we support projects selected from the business model. In order to accomplish all this on site, we have our own committed employee in Saurabh Bhattarai in Nepal. Would you like an example? Our first Fair Trails® in the Himalayas is the “Snow Leopard Trail”, which opens up remote regions north of the Annapurna region. The internationally recognized nature photographer and snow leopard expert Tashi Ghale will accompany our guests and follow the tracks of this mysterious big cat with them. A “Fair Trails® Fee” is included in the tour price, which supports the protection of the snow leopard and the herd protection for the farmers in the region. The “Snow Leopard Trail” will be bookable with us from autumn 2019! Find out now about this unique trekking offer!

7. Better safe than sorry: Protected by the European Package Travel Guideline
Last but not least: “Better safe than sorry” also applies to Nepal trekking! Whether you choose us or another travel agency, make sure it fully complies with the European Union’s Package Travel Framework Directive. Because this framework directive was primarily created to protect the consumer, i.e. for you!

The claims that are made of an internationally active travel agency are considerable. And of course we are happy to meet these requirements, because the result is that they guarantee you the safest and most relaxed travel experience possible! If you want to learn more about this policy, then this link will be helpful.

What else needs to be said: We hope that we have inspired you with our tips for our second home, Nepal, and we are of course particularly pleased if you use the advice and service of the Trail Angels to plan your trip. Namaste & Tashi Delek The Trail Angels

So that you can experience your Nepal trekking carefree: Entrust yourself to a travel agency that fully complies with the European Package Travel Directive. In this way, trekker Mirko can enjoy the beguiling silence of the mysterious highlands of Dolpo.
