Nockberge-Trail – a perfect trail for the summer

But actually I didn’t want to write about the Nockberge Trail in winter. Because together with our Nockberge Trail partners we have had a glorious idea: The Nockberge Trail is now also available in summer! Let’s toast ourselves now – because a Nockberge Trail delivers what it promises. Namely, fantastic hiking with great views at literally the highest level in the Nockberge Biosphere Park. Hardly any other mountain range, with its rounded peaks and grassy ridges, is so ideal for long-distance hiking. You’ll spend most of your time moving across broad ridges from peak to peak, enjoying nearly unrestricted views from the Julian Alps to the ice-capped Hohe Tauern.
Also with a summer ascent of the Nockberge Trail you have wilderness & wellness all inclusive. You can of course also enjoy the comfort of good hotels and at the same time the wilderness of the Nockberge Biosphere Park in summer. However, to take the pepper out of the first stage a bit, we have added an overnight stay at the cozy Neue Bonner Hütte. So to speak as a counterpoint to the hotels at the other stage destinations Katschberg, Innerkrems, Turracher Höhe, Falkertsee and Bad Kleinkirchheim.

The route of the summer version of the Nockberge Trail runs through the Nockberge Biosphere Park in much the same way as in winter, but with a few adaptations: overall, it is a little milder in summer than in winter. Not only because an additional overnight stay makes the stages shorter, but simply because it is summer. In general, you don’t have to worry about any exposed or difficult parts: the trail leads continuously on easy (blue) to moderately difficult (red) paths. With walking times of up to 7 hours per stage (and these times do not include dawdling), it is nevertheless no children’s birthday party. But for mountain-experienced hikers it is from my point of view the ideal type of an alpine long-distance trail. Because as we already know from winter: If you give a lot you will be richly rewarded. With impressions that you will never forget.
